On the afternoon of September 20, Professor
Xu Zongxue of College of Water Sciences came to the new campus in Changping to
give a lecture to the new class of the Master of Water Security 2019, a joint
education program between China and Canada. The lecture was attended by the
College's Associate Dean Pan Chengzhong, teacher Dong Haoyue, all the new MWS
students and some doctoral students.
Associate Dean Pan Chengzhong presided over
the lecture. Pan first expressed his gratitude to Professor Xu Zongxue for his
support for the MWS program, and encouraged students to seize the opportunity
to study hard and improve themselves. Later, Professor Xu Zongxue gave a
lecture under the entitle of "Hydrology: Opportunities and
Challenges". Giving examples from daily life, Professor Xu Zongxue
explained the current development, challenges and application prospect of
hydrology, especially the prospect of interdisciplinary application. After the
lecture, Professor Xu Zongxue appealed to students to seize the opportunity of
China's development and make contributions to protecting the environment.

Professor Xu Zongxue is one of the teachers
who teach in the Sino-Canadian education program MWS of the College of Water
Sciences. In recent years, focusing on the development and application of
distributive hydrological model, Professor Xu Zongxue has conducted plentiful
effective researches on ecological hydrology, urban hydrology, the influence of
climate change on water cycle and other relevant areas. He has successively
published over 360 academic papers, among which there are more than 200 SCI/EI
theses and more than 10 monographs. As a winner of German "Humboldt
Fellowship", Professor Xu Zongxue has obtained the extensive recognition
of the domestic and foreign hydrological science circles. While gaining honors
of the "Outstanding Contribution Award on International Hydrological
Cooperation" of CNC of International Hydrological Programme (IHP) and the
"Endeavour Executive Awards" of Department of Education, Science and
Training (DEST) of the Federal Government of Australia, Professor Xu Zongxue is
actively engaging in international exchanges. On July 9, 2019, Professor Xu was
elected Vice President of the International Association of Hydrological
Sciences (IAHS).
