Personal Profile:
Professor Nils Roar Sælthun is an expert in hydrology and water resources in Norway. He has served as the director of the Hydrologic Computing Division of the Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) of the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (1979-1995), research director of Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) (1995-2005), and dean of the Department of Geosciences of the University of Oslo (2005-2013).
He has long been engaged in research on hydropower generation, water environment and hydrological model, has rich experience in hosting domestic and international research projects on hydrology, ecology and water environment technology, and has participated in or presided over research and assistance projects in Norway and more than 10 countries.
In 1984, Professor Sælthun visited China as a member of the foreign expert group and participated in the feasibility consultation of the Three Gorges Dam.
