Achievements

College of Water Science of Beijing Normal University (hereinafter referred to as CWSBNU) has led to win 4 second prizes ofState Scientific and Technological Progress Awardgranted by the Ministry of Education of PRC, 1 second prize of Dayu Water Conservancy Science and Technology Award granted by Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, and also more than 10 first and second prizes at the provincial and ministerial levels for achievements obtained in cooperation with other units. From 2013 to 2018, CWSBNU published 33 monographs, 9 textbooks and 406 SCI papers, 150 of which belonged to the first and second groups of the academic ranking by SCI;more than 70 inventions of CWSBNU were authorized with national invention patent; more than 40 softwares were authorized with software copyright, among which Eco-Hat, BNU-SWAT, iTough and many other models and softwares have been widely downloaded and used by domestic and foreign counterparts and have exerted an important impact.

4. Name of achievement: Identification of Environmental Risks of Groundwater at Different Scales and Key Management Technologies and Applications (Second Prize ofScientific and Technological Progress Award of Jilin Province, 2018, participated) 

Summary of achievement: The groundwater environmental management is of great significance to water resources security in China, especially in the north. Innovative results in this achievement include: (1) According to the general idea of "risk source-path-acceptor control" of environmental pollution, an overall technical framework featuring "step-by-step screening, classified and graded evaluation", which is targeted at different levels of environmental management needs of China and relative risks, pollution risks and health risks of groundwater at different spatial scales, is established. (2) According to overall requirements of total quantity control and regional environmental management, technical indexes, methods and evaluation models of relative risk assessment of groundwater environment in regions/watersheds are constructed for the first time. (3) According to overall requirements of groundwater environmental risk prevention & control in cities and counties, technical indexes, methods and models of groundwater pollution risk assessment in cities and counties are built up. (4) According to overall requirements of protection of drinking water sources, environmental risk assessment contaminated sites scale and control of pollution sources, indexes, methods and evaluation models of health risk assessment for groundwater in water sources and contaminated sites are established; (5) A graded and classified management system of regional groundwater environmental risks is established for the first time and principles, procedures and schemes of graded and classified groundwater environmental risk management are put forward.


5. Name of achievement: Definition of Concentrated Source Areas of Coarse Sediment in the Yellow River and Study on Water and Coarse Sediment Changes (First Prize of Dayu Water Conservancy Science and Technology Award granted by Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, 2014, participated)

Summary of achievement: Cooperating with relevant units of Yellow River Conservancy Commission, CWSBNU, targeting characteristics of changes of incoming water and coarse sediment of the Yellow River, traces concentrated source areas of coarse sediment and reveals the evolution mechanism of incoming water and coarse sediment based on both previous studies on areas with high coarse-sediment yield and watershed distributed hydrological coarse-sediment model after efforts of more than one decade.The hydrological ecological evolution information system of the Yellow River basin is established; a distributed hydrological model of adaptive simulation of distributed runoff generation mechanism in the Yellow River basin is developed; based on past climate evolution characteristics and possible future climate change scenarios, statistical downscaling techniques are developed, the future climate change scenarios of typical areas in the Yellow River basin are generated, and change rules and characteristics of incoming water and coarse sediment in typical areas of the Yellow River basin under different climate change scenarios in the future are analyzed and evaluated, providing theoretical basis and scientific & technological support for the practice of the Yellow River management, the source research, transport stimulation and evaluation of coarse sediment in the basin.
 

6. Name of achievement: Formation Mechanism of Heavy Metal Pollution in Mines and Key Technology of Environmental Evaluation (Second Prize ofScience and Technology Progress Award of Sichuan Province, 2018, participated)

Summary of achievement: in view of the deficiency of mine geological environmental geochemical model, heavy metal pollution mechanism and heavy metal environmental evaluation methods in mine environmental research in China, the achievement provides a strong technical supportfor mine environmental management, research & evaluation and prevention & monitoring. Main innovative results in this achievement include: (1) The geochemical model of mine geological environment is constructed, and the mechanism and control methods of typical heavy metal pollution in mining activities are put forward, which provide technical support for the regulation of typical heavy metal pollution in mines; (2) The geochemical behavior of heavy metals in different environmental media and migration and transformation characteristics of typical heavy metals are found out, analytic techniques of heavy metal pollution sources and the model of heavy metal migration and transformation are proposed, bioaccumulation characteristics of heavy metals in mines are revealed, providing technical support for the remediation and regulation of typical heavy metal pollution in mines; (3) Environmental risk factors of mines are identified, indexes of potential ecological hazards and many other indexes are optimized, and technical systems of environmental pollution assessment and mine environmental risk assessment based on geochemical baseline are constructed, providing technical support for mine environmental risk prevention & control and environmental management.
